In Japan, the program is administered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).  The Graduate University of Advanced Studies (Soken-dai in Japanese) coordinates the orientation and Japanese language courses, and helps participants move to host institutions.

Note: Applicants to Japan should seek formal acceptance from a senior-level representative at the host institution (e.g., Professor, Director), even if the applicant's mentor will be a junior-level (e.g., Assistant Professor) researcher at theat institution.
